Get Over Yourself

You may associate with this when it comes to creating your own video messages and marekting. Take a second to read this now and think about your own experiences and especially your own self-talk when it comes to seeing yourself in a video or on camera.

A buddy of mine from a marketing group posted this comment saying:

“Been thinking about why I don’t like talking on camera or being photographed so did a couple of test videos to see how I felt about it now. What I noticed that I haven’t acknowledged to myself is that I see the slight droop on the left side of my face which is a result of my Bell’s palsy when I was about 25 … and it bugs the hell out of me! Would anyone else really care? Probably not AND I still don’t get the Selfie Culture.”

Here was my response to him and for YOU too!

(This might help you if you’ve been letting self-consciousness or concern about your image hold you back in any way. Whether it’s getting your YouTube or web site videos done, or perhaps disliking your audios for Podcasting or teleseminar recordings.)

“What ARE you talking about?? Do NOT see or notice, even AFTER looking for what you’re referring to my friend!”

You are not alone. Almost everyone doesn’t like seeing themselves OR listening to their voice either. Best way to deal with it, as I recommend to clients that I coach about this all the time, is:

1 – Concentrate and focus on the people you’re talking to and why it’s important that they get the content you’re sharing. Short form – “It’s not about you.”

2 – If it makes you feel better adjust the lighting to slightly dimmer, smooth and calming. Avoid super bright lighting that reveals all.

3 – Different angles and avoid face only close-ups. You don’t think news anchors and Hollywood actors don’t use this and/or post production editing to enhance their looks or minimize flaws?

4 – If you’re doing training and info marketing, then you can just be the voice over with slides or B-roll and if you want to be ‘identified’ then flash up a still photo that you’re happy about with your name and title in caption.

Finally, I think you’re totally awesome and have great wisdom and knowledge to share on video!
Just sayin… 😉
